💙 Meet Kevin

Kevin is an energetic and bright 8-year-old boy from the plains of San Miguel Chicaj, a rural area located in central Guatemala. He lives with his mother in a small home built from mud walls, dirt floors, and a tin roof—typical of the region. Like many families in his village, Kevin’s family struggles with poverty, surviving on the equivalent of just $50 per month. Reliable work is scarce, and most adults depend on day labor or small-scale farming to make ends meet.

Despite the challenges, Kevin loves school and is currently in 2nd grade, where he enjoys studying math, reading, running, and singing. He helps at home by caring for animals and running errands. He is also an active participant in Bible class through the Bethesda Student Center, a local Compassion International project that serves children in need.

🌍 Kevin’s Community

San Miguel Chicaj is home to about 30,000 residents, many of whom belong to the Achi ethnic group. The region faces serious obstacles: high rates of malnutrition, respiratory illness, and malaria, along with a lack of reliable law enforcement, employment opportunities, and support for struggling families.

Children in Kevin’s community are especially vulnerable. Without intervention, many are forced to drop out of school early to help support their families. In desperate situations, some children—especially boys—are recruited into local gangs, where they are exploited and exposed to violence. Tragically, the life expectancy for children who enter gang life can drop to as low as their early 20s.

Through Fairway for Futures, we are rallying our first tournament around raising $28,560 to fully support Kevin through Compassion International’s child development program until his estimated graduation in December 2034. This funding ensures:

• Access to education and school supplies

• Medical care and regular health checkups

• Nutritious meals and hygiene training

• Emotional and spiritual mentorship

• Birthday, holiday, and annual family gifts

• A safe and supportive environment for growth
